A Leeds-based engineering consultancy firm has helped secure planning permission for the construction of what will be one of the world's largest data centres, based in Dumfries and Galloway.
WYG co-ordinated the submission of the environmental statement as well as drawing up a comprehensive community engagement exercise for the new £950m site at Peelhouses Farm which is estimated to attract more than £3.5bn of inward investment and create hundreds of jobs.
The site, planned for development next year, will provide 193,750 sq ft of office space dedicated to web-commerce, information technology and digital communication in addition to the 2690,977 sq ft data centre and horticultural research and commercial glasshouse complexes.
David Crichton-Miller, managing director of WYG environment planning transport, said: "By using our experienced team and engaging with the local community we successfully gained planning permission for our client. We are delighted to be involved in such a prestigious project."
Developer Lockerbie Data Centres will use WYG as lead consultants for the development scheme.
Donald McCreadie, consultant to WYG planning & design, said: "This is an exciting opportunity for Lockerbie and I look forward to working closely with Lockerbie Data Centres in helping to deliver this project on the ground."
