Sheltered housing for 40 elderly people has been opened in the village of Menston, West Yorkshire, by Abbeyfield Ilkley Society.
The accommodation was made possible by £1.7 million of funding from Barclays.
Abbeyfield is a national charity providing care and sheltered housing for the over-60s. Chairman Brian Whitaker said: "This new facility is excellent news for the local ageing population and provides them with an opportunity to remain independent whilst having the knowledge and support of care staff 24 hours a day.
"Independent living is at the forefront of the Government's agenda for the elderly, and residents are encouraged to take part in social activities in the communal rooms provided."
Around 20 people will work in the housing unit, Abbeyfield said.
Russell Briggs, of Barclays Corporate, said: "It's great to see Abbeyfield expanding and providing much-needed up-to-date facilities for the elderly. Barclays are delighted to support this new venture which confirms our commitment to West Yorkshire businesses."
